I met this beautiful
"very American" young young lady on the Cannon Bldg corner in
July. She is our future and she is "hope in our hearts!" The
picture below is Amanda with her Hero Dad, a beloved Vietnam
Veteran. Is she proud of her Dad or what!???
I received this email
from Amanda when I got home from our July stand on the Corner.
Please post this with her picture and let's help her. Picking
thorns off roses, that's how tough this young lady is! Gary,
please post this in your newsletter.
Amanda, tell us what
you need and we will help you. Be sure you contact your local
chapter of the Blue Star Mothers as this seems like a project they
would love to take on.
God Bless you for
your fortitude and your patriotism. I worry about my
grandchildren so much because I meet so many young people who
just don't seem to care about our country. You are an inspiration
to all of them and a shining ray of hope for us.
Thank You and keep me
posted Amanda
Below is the email
I received from Amanda C:
Hello Beverly,
First, I wanted to thank you for what you have started and for
the encouragement you have given to the people around you (other
mothers, soldiers, and even people who just agree with you). It
was amazing being able to lobby with you and everyone else. THANK
YOU!!!!
Second, and the main reason for this e-mail, roses for vets.
Roses of vets was founded by a women named Sherrie and since she
passed away no one has kept if going. So I would truly like to
start roses for vets back up. I think that it did a great deal of
good to give the men and women who served a beautiful symbol of
love, honor, and respect. I also think that it will help encourage
others around to find a way to thank a vet.
The flowers will be donated from local florists. Once I know how
many florists are helping, I will need to find a way to pick them
up (I do not drive). Once we have transported the flowers to where
we will be, each rose needs to be de-thorned. That in it's self is
a hard job because no matter how good you get at it, it still
hurts. After being de-thorned there's the joy and fulfillment of
being able to see the look on their faces when you give them their
rose. As you can tell, I am going to need A LOT of help if this is
going to be successful. It is far too much for one or two people,
but if you could pass this on to some people who you know that
would be highly appreciated.
This is done once a year, on Veteran's day, but I believe that's
one aspect of it. It is a day that is to celebrate them, and we
achieve this by doing something extra special for them. And
believe me, I want to go more that just AN extra mile I would love
to go 100 acres for the courageous people who lay (have lain)
their lives on the line for our freedom.
Thank you for
helping me out with this. I have already been told that
no matter what, I'll have a place to set up so in a week or so i
will be calling flower shops and asking if they will donate
flowers. if anyone would like to contact me you can tell them to
call me at
XXX-XXXX (please email Bev to help Amanda at
bev@thebandofmothers.com)
Respectfully,
Amanda-ly E. Cunningham
